Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Who is sponsoring this study?
A. This study is sponsored by Dynamic Health Resources, an innovative research and disease intervention company which focuses on prevention through nutrition and coaching.
Q. Why do participants pay to participate in a study?
A. This program has been in existence for more than five years and has seen tremendous success in the prevention of migraines and other serotonin-deficient conditions. One research study, conducted by Eastern Virginia Medical School , found favorable results and suggested further, larger studies.
This is a consumer driven study, not a drug funded study. This means participants contribute to some of the cost of the research and have a much greater influence. Participants will receive a partial refund for the time and data they provide to the study.
Q. Can someone take part in the program but not participate in the study?
A. Yes, we have many clients who take part in the program and choose not to participate in the study. The program is commercially available. To order the program, persons may call 757-821-0215 and speak with a program representative.
Q. How much does it cost to participate in the study?
A. The initial startup cost is $120 for the first 6 weeks. This includes Seratonin TM, the key dietary supplement to increase serotonin production, Purifica, a detoxification formula, personalized coaching and motivation, as well as all nutritional guidelines and study paperwork. You will need second bottle of Seratonin TM, for the month two and third bottle for month three. A bottle of Seratonin TM, costs $80. When all study documentation is returned to the study coordinator, a credit or rebate will be given to you for $80. Total cost of the 90 day study period is $200. Most participants continue the program after the initial 90 day study period and can receive supplements through automatic shipment.
Q. Will this program work for me if I have hormonal or weather-induced migraines?
A. Very likely. Migraines are caused by acute serotonin depletion. Seratonin depletion is caused by a variety of sources, including foods, environmental triggers, stress, hormonal imbalances, and many others. When an individual has low serotonin to begin with, they are often able to live without pain but often have other symptoms of low serotonin such as difficulty sleeping and depression. When a trigger is introduced (hormone, weather change, allergy to food), the serotonin levels dip even lower, resulting in a loss of vasomotor control and triggering a migraine. Because this program helps the body to produce its own serotonin in adequate and consistent amounts, there should be enough serotonin available when a trigger is introduced. When the body/brain has enough available serotonin, persons are less susceptible to all triggers.
Q. I have heard that serotonin does not cross the blood-brain barrier, so how will it help for my body to produce more serotonin if it does not get to my brain to be used?
A. That is true. Seratonin molecules are too large, but the precursors (ingredients in Seratonin TM ) are small enough and can easily cross through the blood/brain barrier with the proper transportation assistance. Seratonin TM contains 5-HTP, a precursor that is need by your body to manufacture serotonin.
As a side note, about 90% of serotonin is found in your digestive system. When you have digestive problems, like most migraine sufferers, essential nutrients to produce serotonin are diverted to you digestive system, thus further depriving your brain of serotonin.
Q. What is the nutritional protocol involved in this program? Why should it work for me?
A. Many migraine sufferers have tried avoiding trigger foods, often with little success. Most become frustrated and convinced that they do not have any food triggers. This program is different for a few reasons. To begin, we ask that participants avoid all listed potential food triggers while starting supplements and detoxification. As migraines become less frequent, one new food is introduced every 3-4 days while tracking this progress in a food journal. This process is crucial as a trigger can cause serotonin depletion as far after ingesting/exposure as 72 hours.
This program is also different in that most patients see a significant reduction or elimination in migraines during the first month or two. When participants become migraine free before adding foods back, it is much easier to target which specific foods that person is sensitive to. Every person is sensitive to a different combination of foods, so finding and eliminating only the necessary ones can allow them to enjoy not only a migraine-free life, but freedom to make a wider variety of food choices without the fear of headaches. Lastly, this program provides unlimited support and coaching for anyone involved in the program. Educated and certified coaches are available to help with any nutritional or other questions.
Q. What medical research body is accountable for this study?
A. This study has been approved by the Mid Atlantic Institutional Review Board - IRB. This is the same oversight required for drug studies. AMPS is being conducted by Dynamic Health Resources. The principal investigator is Dr. John Allocca.
Q. How does this program work?
A. This program works in three different ways. First, participants take a supplement, Seratonin TM , which has been shown to increase the body's production of available serotonin. Second, participants are asked to avoid all potential food triggers for the first three months of the study. This is to avoid serotonin depletion from food sources. Third, participants take a detoxification formula, Purifica. This detoxification is mild and does not usually cause cramping, bloating, or diarrhea. Bowel detoxification is important as 90% of serotonin is produced in the intestinal tract. When the intestinal tract is clogged or chemically toxic, serotonin will be depleted creating a serotonin deficient condition.
Q. Is Seratonin TM patented?
A. Dynamic Health Resources holds a U.S. patent for Seratonin TM , which is specifically patented for preventing migraines.
Q. Does this have to be prescribed by my physician?
A. No, although we have physicians that do work with the program and regularly refer patients, it is not essential that you come to the study through your physician. What we do ask is that study participants have their physician sign a diagnosis form, confirming a migraine diagnosis. This is a significant savings by avoiding the cost of most doctor visits to diagnose what has already been diagnosed.
Q. Can I take Seratonin TM while taking other medications to prevent migraines?
A. Yes. Many of our participants start the program while still taking medications to prevent migraines. Participants often find that, during the initial three month period, they feel less depressed, sleep more soundly, and have decreased or eliminated migraine pain. Many of them, under the guidance of a physician, are able to taper off medications and only take Seratonin TM for migraine prevention. Every individual is different, and we do not encourage participants to ever decrease medications without first consulting the treating physician.
Q. What are the side effects of Seratonin TM ?
A. A small number of participants may experience mild nausea while beginning the program. This feeling usually subsides after a few weeks and is also decreased greatly when taking the supplement with food. When compared to the potential, and long-term, ongoing side effects of many prescription migraine medications, temporary, mild nausea has been reported by most participants as insignificant given the added benefit of migraine elimination.
Q. Can this product be taken during pregnancy?
A. Although this product has been taken during pregnancy and nursing with no known adverse effects, it is important to consult the advice of one's physician before taking any supplementation during pregnancy. Studies have not been conducted on the specific use of this product during pregnancy.
